Matter Separation Techniques
Experiment
We did five different experiments to test out the matter separation techniques of evaporation, chromatography, sedimentation, filtration, and distillation. Because we didn't have the equipment to test centrifugation, we watch some videos about this technique. Here you can see what we did in the lab.
To test the technique of sedimentation, we combined soil with water, and let the particles of soil to go down with the force of gravity.

In this technique, we used a mixture of water and alcohol, and inserted the paper with colors (without the colors touching the water). This way, if the colors start going up, it means the liquid is a compound, and not a pure substance.

For this technique, we decided to use the Bunsen Burner to boil the water. After all the water was turned into water vapor, passing from liquid to gas, the crystals of salt were left in the glass.

To test this technique, we passed copper sulfate through a paper, which let pass the liquid, and make the white pieces of copper to stay behind.
